Hi All,
As I'm away next week I'd like to schedule this months meet on 20th June.(3rd Monday instead of 2nd of the month)
Usual location of The Woolpack @ 7:30pm
Topics of discussion for the month will probably include:
Fedora 15 & Gnome 3 with Gnome Shell
Ubuntu 11.04 with Unity
Comparing both of the above.
Oracle releasing OpenOffice.org to the Apache Foundation - but
retaining copyright of the name
And various others.
Looking to arrange the December LUG meet.
I think the location last time was pretty decent and will be ideal until we maybe have an event which requires something different.
So the details for the meet:
Date: 2nd Monday of the month, 13th December
Time: 7:30pm
The initial meeting went well with Tim, Michael, Stuart and myself meeting at the Woolpack last night. Good to meet folks with like minded interests and thoroughly enjoyable conversation was had.
I'm going to be looking into finding a decent location for us to have future talks (projector & screen etc) and will look to organise a few events throughout early next year. If anyone has any ideas or would like to run a talk sometime soon please step forward.
Sorry for the delay in responding with the location of next Monday's Meet.
Looking to hold the first meeting at the Woolpack Pub, Haslingden on Monday 8th November starting around 7:30pm http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/
Ignore the link to the actual pub on there as it seems to be pointing to the wrong pub.
Hi All,
A few days ago an exploit was found in the GNU C library.
Expansion of the $ORIGIN dynamic linker allows a standard user to link privileged executables and eventually (and easily) gain root access to a system.
I've tested this and it works way too easily.

It has been patched on Fedora and I've heard reports also on Ubuntu so if you can patch glibc asap.
