Host Whole group
Peter Mitchell asked the question about setting up a home server, mainly for use with SSH remote access. We discussed methods of bringing up an Ubuntu server and enabling the SSH service. Allowing access securely from an external internet connection. This included configuring SSH to run on a different port and configuring a netgear router to allow access in using port forwarding.
We also went on to discuss various other services that could be run on a Linux server, such as Samba for file serving.
Also discussed was the topic of compiling drivers for webcams and wireless cards.
